Do Lovebirds Talk

Lovebirds are very vocal birds, they make very loud high pitched screeches, especially if they want your attention! They have certain times of the day when they are most noisy, this is usually when they wake around dawn and again in the late afternoon. Do lovebirds talk? Very rarely, but there are always exceptions.

If you want your lovebird to talk then it will need to be trained from an early age. You may never get your lovebird to say actual words, but they are capable of imitating human sounds and other noises such as phone rings and whistling, but this is very rare.

As lovebirds are one of the smaller parrots their high-pitched voice is raspy and difficult to understand, although there are people who have taught their lovebird to talk and say understandable words.

Lovebirds may be difficult to teach to talk but they can be taught to do tricks such as perching on your shoulder or head and some even learn to give a kiss! They can be taught to wave a foot and easily learn how to climb ladders.

Some lovebirds will just never talk no matter what you do, each and every one is unique and special, just because your lovebird never has the ability to talk does not mean you should stop trying!

It may be worth teaching or training your lovebird to do tricks or try to talk as this means you are giving constant attention to them which they love and thrive on. It will also stop them from becoming bored. If they get bored, like many other birds they will start feather plucking which is not healthy for them.

Do lovebirds talk? To some extent yes, although if you want a parrot species which can easily be taught to talk then lovebirds are not the right choice. If you are set on a lovebird and would love to train him or her to talk then it is possible, it just takes a lot of effort and hard work as well as a touch of luck! Think of it as extra special if you can make your lovebird really talk, as you have found a very special friend indeed!
